Tater Tots

Congratulations to Javier "Gunny" Diaz and Shukri "Freak" Saleh, who share the Winter 2008 Home Run crown. Both bashers fell one shy of tying former Green Monster Mike Moore for the record, which Mike set in Winter 2007. (He hit his five blasts in an 8-game season, and we've since gone to 10.) The 24 home runs that the 12 guys combined for is easily a record for one season. Smashed the old total by so much, it's not even worth mentioning. Testing for steroids, HGH, and spiked mansaf will be implemented next season. Here's your final tally: 4: Javier "Gunny" Diaz, Green Monsters Shukri "Freak" Saleh, Nomads 3: Aaron Bouchane, Trojans Ash Samawi, Green Monsters 2: Saif Barhoum, Trojans Brent Hill, Hit Squad 1: Yazan Barghouti, Slackers Jeff Coupe, Green Monsters Zaki Ibrahim, Nomads Nadim Kayyali, Slackers Larry Martin, Hit Squad Mark McPherson, Hit Squad Player Notes: Green Monsters' Brooke Sartawi led all women with five inside-the-park home runs. Her teammate Kevin Rowlson led the league in homers allowed with, like, sixty. The Trojans' Saif Barhoum joined Mark McPherson as the only players in ASL history to hit Grand Slams. (Mark did it in Winter 2007 for the Beats.) Do you remember when Larry Martin led the league in homers this season? He did, and for quite a long time. 4U2NV's Jafar Dabbas and Omar Abu Abdelsamad each missed hitting one out by less than five feet during Week 10. Ash Samawi out-homered his former team, 3-2. There is no effective way to pitch around Aaron Bouchane and Brent Hill; they both can hit anything. Cheers to Nadim Kayyali for representing the Little Guys. ASL's first champs, Glock Therapy (Summer 2005) did not have one home run all that season. The last remaining player from that team is Hit Squad's Chris Hattayer, who is due for one this season. Random Notes: Tournament stats, including homers, are separate, just like they are in every sport ... Green Monsters led the league in team home runs with 8 ... Only one team did not have at least one home run hitter (4U2NV), but only one team beat the Green Monsters (4U2NV) ... Five of the top six sluggers had multi-homer days ... Finally, FYI: CLICKITY (Clip #1 from the "As Seen on the Broadcast" section on the right. Watch for the second guy they catch.)

I am proud to lead the league in allowed taters. None of the ones I gave up were cheap.

Zaki why do you call out all the batters to challenge you when ya can't back it up....don't worry dude when ya finally track it down, kill it and have it for dinner.

Take a lesson from a champ and not a chump...Don't let yer mouth write a check yer bat (or glove) can't cash.

Maybe ya'll should take to heart what O and Shuk are actually saying instead of letting ya'lls arrogance and pride get in the way.
Side Note: Shukri has been a Monster and he KNOWS what it's all about.

I am surprised O and Shuk can still even play as much as they have to carry ya'll on their backs every week for 10 weeks.

Keys to winning the tournament: Good fielding (this includes hitting the cutoff man--member him?)

Good hitting (1 thru 10...NOT)

Am I still invited to that Championship Party now? Ya'll got "Slack Attacked"

21-6 ring a bell??? You know the slogan.... GET SOME

Tournament Preview:

Trojans: This team could of easily been 8-2 or 7-3, Could be a darkhorse come Friday.

Hit Squad: Depending which roster of 31 show up for them they could make a little noise on Friday.

4U2NV: Up ended the powerhouse Monsters a week ago and I know the Smurfs want another chance to prove it was NOT a fluke but first they need to get by the Hit Squad.

Nomads: It is put up or shut up time for Omar's Kids. My guess? shut up.

Slackers: Totally Offensive, Defense is just a place to stand until it is their turn to bat.

Green Monsters: Week 9 loss to NV was a wake up call for the Mean Greenies. Still the champ until they get knocked off.

GAG ORDER!!!!

Due to the dismal and Embarrasing performance of our team this Friday, the Nomads, a GAG ORDER has been issued.

You want to trash talk, boast, and blow your horn, you do it on the field from now on and not on this blog.

As far as I am concerned Omar Al Massarweh is the only one who has the right to say anything on here, for he has earned it, and we have let him down.

Le Freak (Reigning HR King and pround to share it with a great athelete, GUNNY. )

Looks like the egos are getting out of hand from what I'm seeing.

Only 1 slip up in all my years playing outfield since I've left my "first base post" and I think I have to say, thats not bad at all. My point being, I've proven myself beyond worthy of the outfield, period.com

I'll call out that challenge again for this Friday, only this time, I'm calling it along with THE REST OF THE NOMADS!

And to conclude, perhaps there's a little too much pride running around that needs to be tamed (uhhhhmm uhhmmm)

What we need to have come this Friday and the next season too is positive attitudes, not pummeling pressure. What makes you think they "carry" us on their backs?! If we want to call OURSELVES the Nomads, then we pretty much carry each other, not just 2 people. need I say more?!

See you Friday, with our new field faces and refined attitudes. We'll shut up, but not yet, not until after we put up a good fight.

Dude...Do you really think a freakin dog gone ground ball that rolls past three fielders considered....nevermind.

I am too tired to even explain or validate or give excuses for anything that the Nomads have done.

I will say this though... every week there is a dissappointment in my view in how we play.. and as much as I direct and give advice and as many games as we play and practice... most of the time it falls on deaf ears. Either that or some of us are just stubborn and have too much pride to suck thier "whatever up" and just get on with it.

The problem with the Nomads is not the Talent... in fact I think we have the most talent in the league...but we NEVER USE IT.

Who is to say that the Green Monsters are better than us? Who is to say that the Slackers are better than us? No one...
You know what? They arent... But the Nomads time and time again lose games to themselves not to the other teams but to themselves.. I have no doubt in my mind that every one of the Nomads can come out and be 5-5 on any given day. But we dont. Instead we dwell on blaming other people, concentrating on what other people do wrong, instead of sucking it up, admitting mistakes, shaking it off, keeping our chins up concentrating, thinking about the big picture and moving on.

We have the talent to win and win everytime. But sadly, we dont have the mindset. AT ALL.

The day the Nomads mature, grow up and think like a team, and not about individual accomplishemtns and blaming eachother we will become a team, and we wont shut up.

Until then, sadly the Nomads do ride the back of thier captain and thier loud mouth Shukri Saleh, because they are the consistent ones, time and time again. As much as some Nomads dont want to hear it it is true. While this should be a team effort, sadly it is not and has not been over the past couple of weeks.

Either that, or we truly just dont have the talent to do it time and time again. I say we do.

In the final game last year, I blame myself for not performing. And I put no excuses that I was injured or had a tore hamstring or that I was tired or or or.. I blame myself, I shut up, I moved on. But when the Captain is down, there should be some backup to pick up the slack, and that has not happened, ever.

Sorry for the Nomads to say this. But you all need a dose of reality. So you can either call me and complain and fight the words that I said here which is probably what most of you will do. Or you can deal with it and realize that it is the truth.

Either way it is time for the Nomads to put up, or shut up.

I am not shuting up, nor will I ever. I just wish I had a team of Majali minded clones with me.

What about you?

Damn, I'm not getting involved in this conversation...too deep for me on Sunday.

Just wanted to declare the fields for 4U2NV on this Wednesday at 430 till dark.

One piece of advice for all players in the league, your personal achievements off the field are way more important than the teams achievements on the field.

I would just like to say good luck to all 6 teams playing for the hardware on Friday.

I hope you all stay healthy and safe.

I must say this tournament is as wide open as any that I have ever played in, any one of the 6 teams could win this thing.

This year has been alot of fun and it is always a pleasure playing against you all.

I know you probably hear this everyday, but I'm your biggest fan
I got a room full of your posters and your pictures man
I like the way you play defense, that s**t is phat

If you didn't wanna talk to me outside your ball game
you didn't have to, but you coulda signed an autograph for Matthew
That's my little brother man, he's only six years old
We waited in the blistering sun for you,
four hours and you just said, "No."
That's pretty crappy man - you're like his frikking idol
He wants to be just like you man, he likes you more than I do

I even got a tattoo of your name across my chest
See, the way you play is real, and I respect you cuz you ball it
My girlfriend's jealous cuz I talk about you 24/7
But she don't know you like I know you Zaki, no one does

You know the song by Phil Collins, "In the Air of the Night"
about that guy who coulda saved that other guy from drowning
but didn't, then Phil saw it all, then at a show he found him?
That's kinda how this is, you coulda rescued me from drowning
Now it's too late - and all I wanted was a lousy letter or a call
I hope you know I ripped ALL of your pictures off the wall
I love you Zaki, we coulda been together, think about it
You ruined it now, I hope you can't sleep and you dream about it
And when you dream I hope you can't sleep and you SCREAM about it

You gotta call me man, I'll be the biggest fan you'll ever lose
Anyways, I hope you get this man, hit me back,
just to chat, truly yours, your biggest fan

Sincerely yours,"The Fan"
-- P.S.We should be together too

I say we postpone it, till the week after and enjoy our accomplishment or failure. Either way we are guaranteed for sun, fun, and occasionally hot looking Arab broads.

Of course rum, relaxation, and recovering from my expected injuries will be part of it also.

Mude:

I have a suggestion for the format of the all star game:

5 players from each team.
one must be a female, at least.

1st, 4th and 5th play on one team.
1st place team is coach.

2nd, 3rd, and 6th.
2nd place team is coach.

(Only 1st and 2nd place determined by championship game, rest by regular season standings) In the case that current 1 and 2 place do not meet in final every team drops a spot in standing to determine final standings.

For example, if Trojans win it all against Green Monsters, Slackers drop to 3 seed, Nomads to 4 seed and so on...

That way you have most likely 12 male players, 3 female players per team.
You can chose to have 3 subs or 4 subs in the case of the males. (determined by DH) Same goes for females 1 or none.

Keep 7 inning format. Unless popular consensus says more. No time limit on game.

I also suggest having a HR derby before all star game. One candidate from each team. Ten pitches each, pitcher of thier choosing.

Top two advance to final round.

5 pitches. pitcher of thier choosing. Sudden death pitches in case of ties.

King is King.

My bet is on Le Freak hands down.
An I'll put some money on it too!!

Nomads forever.

All Star

Lets try to limite All Stars team to 12-13 players PER TEAM. No more. This ensures enough playing time.

Im sure a lot would second that, so please voice opinions.

Le Freak

Anonymous said...

Why don't each of the 5 other teams choose their top players and play 4u2nv as we are the only team to beat the green monsters which makes us the all star team!! Oh yeah!! The winner can buy booze for the other team!

Easy tiger...I like the fire but not on the NV. Keep in mind that NV are the ones who have cheered for us time and time again.

Mude I ask you delete that comment. Out of place.

Considering that you arent one of the two players I mentioned in my "essay" who have been consistent time and time again I wouldnt be talking like that if I were you.

Concentrate your fire on the field this friday and give us a boost to win. And bring your fire with you.

Do I sense some jealousy here????

By the way, that was totally uncalled for...

We lost MANY games and we won a FEW... that does not mean we will lose our sense of humour or team spirit Mr. "Come Friday I Will Suddenly Turn Into A Real Ball Player But I Am Too Scared To State My Name"!

I am sure the REST of your team are just great players...But you, its kind of a long shot with a tongue like yours even if you hit a homerun that reaches the north pole or the south pole as a matter of fact.

Cheers Nomads, wish you a great Friday!
